ABOUT
Cathy Van Hear is a textile artist living and working in Hove, UK. She specialises in crochet, alongside using hand and machine stitching, embroidery, knitting, and natural dye techniques in her work. She also teaches crochet courses to adults in Brighton and London. This high level of understanding of the medium allows her to create surprising forms, textures, and stitch combinations when making works with a fine art approach, and her work has been exhibited at galleries across the South East of the UK.
Alongside her studio and teaching practice, she works as a freelance art fabricator and has created works for institutions such as Selfridges and Greenpeace. Drawing on a decade of experience making textiles for artworks, visual merchandising, film, props, festival decor, fashion, and costume, Cathy believes that, with the right approach, it can be done. She welcomes challenging and exciting briefs from a wide range of industries, if you have a project you’d like to discuss, get in touch at hello@cathyvanhear.com
